FAQ's

What is My Roar’s approach to therapy?

At My Roar Therapy, our approach is evidence-based, strengths-driven, and rooted in compassion.

We believe growth happens when therapy feels safe, engaging, and meaningful. That’s why our sessions are play-based, fun, and individualized — built around each child’s unique interests and abilities.

Our team leads with Compassion in Action by meeting every family where they are, celebrating small wins, and providing the kind of genuine care that makes therapy feel personal. We uphold Roaring Excellence by going above and beyond in everything we do — from detailed communication to creative, research-backed strategies.

Most importantly, we believe in Guiding Families, not just clients. Our therapists collaborate closely with parents and caregivers, offering tools and insights that make progress possible long after each session ends.

At My Roar, we focus on fostering real relationships and creating lasting impact — helping every individual and family feel supported, seen, and confident as they find their ROAR.

Where are services provided?

Clinic: Our primary clinic is conveniently located in Apex, NC, providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for appointments.

Teletherapy: We offer teletherapy services statewide across North Carolina, allowing you to access our services from the comfort of your home or office. Please contact us to learn more about our service locations or to schedule an appointment. We look forward to assisting you.

How much does therapy cost?

Costs depend on your insurance coverage and plan details. We complete a comprehensive verification process before your first visit so there are no surprises. If you’d like an exact estimate, fill out our Insurance Verification Form and we’ll confirm your benefits, copays, and deductibles before scheduling.

If you prefer, you can also choose our private-pay option — a simple, discounted flat rate that often ends up being more cost-effective for families who haven’t met their deductible yet. Our team will review all options with you so you can make the choice that fits your family best.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept several payment options to make therapy simple and accessible for every family.

You can pay using:

  • Insurance: We’re in-network with major plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield NC, Aetna, Cigna (RPN in NC), Healthy Blue, AmeriHealth, Alliance, WellCare, Carolina Complete Health, and Medicaid.

  • Private Pay: For families who prefer to pay directly, we offer discounted private-pay rates, which can sometimes be more affordable than using insurance—especially if you haven’t met your deductible.

  • ESA Plus Grant Funds: We are an approved ESA+ Provider through the North Carolina Education Student Accounts (ESA) Plus Grant Program.

    • ESA Plus funds can be used alongside insurance to cover any remaining balance after insurance is billed.

    • If you’re paying fully with ESA funds, we can invoice those sessions directly through the ESA portal.

  • Credit Card or HSA/FSA Card: We accept all major credit cards, as well as Health Savings (HSA) and Flexible Spending (FSA) cards.

Please Note:

  • Payment is due at the time of service.

  • A card is required to be kept on file for automatic payments and to simplify billing for your convenience.

Our intake team will review your preferred payment method and ensure everything is set up before your first session—so you can focus on progress, not paperwork.

Do you accept insurance?

es! My Roar Speech Therapy is in-network with the following insurance plans:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina

  • Aetna

  • Cigna (RPN in NC)

  • Healthy Blue

  • AmeriHealth

  • Alliance Health

  • WellCare

  • Carolina Complete Health

  • Medicaid

If your insurance plan is out-of-network, don’t worry — you may still have out-of-network benefits that cover part of therapy costs.
As a courtesy, we offer complimentary claims submission for out-of-network plans. That means we’ll handle the paperwork and submit claims on your behalf so you can focus on your child’s progress — not the billing process.

Please note that when we bill insurance (even out-of-network), we are required to charge our standard insurance rates.
If you’d prefer not to go through insurance, you can choose our private-pay option, which offers a discounted rate and often ends up being more predictable for families who haven’t met their deductible.

We are also an approved ESA+ Provider through the North Carolina Education Student Accounts (ESA) Plus Grant Program. This program provides eligible families with education grant funds that can be used for services such as speech therapy, tutoring, or special education support. Families who qualify can even use their ESA+ grant funds alongside insurance to help cover any remaining costs, giving you greater flexibility and peace of mind.

What is the North Carolina ESA+ Grant, and can I use it for speech/occupational therapy?

The North Carolina Education Student Accounts (ESA+) Grant is a state-funded program that helps families cover the cost of educational and therapeutic services for eligible students with disabilities.

Funds from the ESA+ Grant can be used for:

  • Speech therapy

  • Occupational therapy

  • Tutoring and educational support services

  • Approved educational materials and programs

My Roar Therapy is a proud ESA+ Approved Provider, which means eligible families can use ESA+ funds to help pay for speech therapy services — either on their own or alongside insurance to cover any remaining costs.

To learn more or apply, visit the official NC ESA+ Program website managed by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).

If I choose to do private pay, can those payments go toward my deductible?

No — private-pay sessions are not billed through insurance and therefore do not count toward your deductible. However, our private-pay rates are often more cost-effective and predictable, especially for families who haven’t met their deductible or have limited coverage.
We’ll review both options with you before starting so you can make an informed choice that fits your family’s needs.

How do I know if my insurance will cover speech/occupational therapy?

Before your first visit, we complete a comprehensive insurance verification to confirm:

  • Whether speech therapy is covered under your plan

  • If prior authorization is required

  • Your copay, coinsurance, and deductible details

Simply complete our secure Insurance Verification Form to get started. Once verified, our intake team will contact you with your coverage summary and next steps.

If your plan has limited or no coverage, don’t worry — we offer private-pay options that may be more cost-effective, especially if you haven’t met your deductible yet.

We believe everyone should have access to the care they need.
That’s why we offer private-pay options and flexible payment plans — so we can work together to make services accessible and sustainable for your family. Let’s chat and see how we can make it work for you!

How much does speech/occupational therapy cost through insurance?

It depends on your plan. Once we verify your benefits, you’ll receive a clear breakdown of your expected costs, including:

  • Copay or coinsurance amounts

  • Deductible information

  • Any required authorizations

Our goal is full transparency — you’ll always know what to expect before your first session.

What’s the difference between out-of-network and private-pay rates?

If you choose to use your out-of-network insurance benefits, that means we’ll be interacting directly with your insurance company. In this case, we are required to bill the same insurance rates that we bill all insurance plans — by law, we must bill all insurers consistently. Because these sessions are submitted through insurance, they can apply toward your deductible, depending on your plan.

If you choose private pay, that means we are not billing or communicating with your insurance company, and those payments do not go toward your deductible. However, private-pay sessions are billed at a discounted rate, and many families find this option more predictable and budget-friendly.

In short:

  • Out-of-network = billed at standard insurance rates; may apply toward your deductible.

  • Private pay = discounted rate; not billed to insurance; does not apply to deductible.

Our intake coordinator will help you compare both options so you can decide what’s best for your family and your budget.

How does billing work for services like professional communication coaching?

Professional communication services are typically not covered by insurance, as they are considered elective or non-medical. We provide transparent pricing and can discuss payment options during your free consultation.

How long will be child need therapy?

Every child’s prognosis is highly dependent on several factors, including but not limited to the severity of the disorder, carryover, attention, motivation, etc. My Roar Therapy will provide progress summaries to track your child’s progress. Additionally, every session includes caregiver education to ensure you are well-equipped to practice learned skills at home!

What ages do you work with in pediatric speech therapy?

We love working with kids of all ages—from tiny toddlers just starting to talk to teens preparing for their next steps in life. We tailor therapy to each child’s unique needs and developmental stage.

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Great question! If your child has trouble making sounds, using words, understanding directions, or connecting with others, it might be helpful to have them evaluated. We’re happy to offer a free consultation or screening—just reach out!

What exactly is pediatric occupational therapy?

Great question! Pediatric OT supports children in developing the skills they need for everyday life—like dressing, writing, playing, and managing emotions. It’s all about building confidence and independence in a fun, supportive way that fits your child’s unique needs.

How do I know if my child could benefit from OT?

If your child struggles with fine motor tasks (like using scissors or buttons), staying focused, managing big emotions, or navigating sensory experiences, OT might be a helpful next step. We’re happy to provide a free consultation to talk through your concerns and see if OT is a good fit.

What happens during an OT session?

Every session is tailored to your child’s goals! Depending on their needs, sessions might include games that build coordination, handwriting practice, sensory activities, or life-skill tasks like brushing teeth or tying shoes. We always keep it engaging—and you’ll get tips to carry progress into daily routines.

Do you offer in-person and virtual OT services?

Yes! Families can choose between in-person sessions at our Apex clinic (featuring our sensory-friendly gym!) or virtual teletherapy from the comfort of home. Both formats are guided by licensed occupational therapists and customized for your child.

How often will my child need occupational therapy?

It varies depending on your child’s goals and how they respond to therapy. Some children benefit from weekly sessions, while others may come more or less frequently. We’ll work together to create a plan that works for your family and keeps your child growing.

What services do you provide to schools through your contracts?

Whether it’s one-on-one sessions, small groups, push-in services, or even virtual therapy, we adapt to fit what works best for your students and staff. We’re here to support your school community with flexible, compassionate care.

Do you provide evaluations and progress monitoring for students?

Yes! Our team is skilled in using standardized assessments like the CELF-5, GFTA-3, and PLS-5 to evaluate students’ speech, language, and occupational therapy needs. We also help track progress over time, so schools have clear, measurable data to guide IEP planning and therapy goals.
